According to the Chilean Football Federation (Anfp), Cape Verde goalkeeper Voznia, from a Portuguese-speaking country, has been granted permission to have his nickname printed on his Colo-Colo jersey.
The 40-year-old signed a six-month contract with the Chilean team after gaining popularity for his performance at the recent World Cup. Chilean league regulations originally required him to use his real name, José Evora Diaz, as local rules prohibit the use of nicknames, titles, or aliases on jerseys. However, Colo-Colo ultimately obtained permission to continue using his well-known nickname, which means "grandmother" in Portuguese.
"This is the name I've used all my life," Voznia said at a press conference. "It has great significance and a rich history in Cape Verde, and now it has global influence. If my grandmother were still alive, I think she would be very proud of it."
